Vegetarisch hondenvoer – het verschil met veganistisch hondenvoer.<\/h2>\n\n

Volgens The Vegetarian Society of the UK<\/a> eten vegetari\u00ebrs (en veganisten) geen producten of bijproducten van het slachten. Ze eten geen voedingsmiddelen die zijn gemaakt met behulp van slachtproducten. <\/p>\n\n

Dat betekent dat een vegetari\u00ebr geen vlees of gevogelte, vis of zeevruchten, insecten, gelatine of dierlijk stremsel, bouillon of vet van dieren eet.<\/p>\n\n

Het verschil is dat vegetari\u00ebrs honing, eieren en zuivelproducten mogen eten.<\/p>\n\n

Veganisten eten niets dat dierlijke ingredi\u00ebnten bevat, hetzij als ingredi\u00ebnt of dat een dierlijk ingredi\u00ebnt gebruikt is bij het maken of verwerken van het eindproduct.<\/p>\n\n

Wat is dan vegetarisch hondenvoer<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n

Een vegetarische hondenvoeding kan eieren bevatten (dooiers, wit of beide), eierschalen, zuivelproducten (kaas, melk, room, wei, stremsel), honing, vitamine D3 uit lanoline (gewonnen uit schapenwol).<\/p>\n\n

Vegetarisch hondenvoer<\/a> haalt zijn eiwitten uit eieren, wei en peulvruchten, zaden, noten, granen, rijst en knollen zoals aardappelen. Deze worden samen met andere groenten en fruit gebruikt om vegetarisch hondenvoer te maken. <\/p>\n\n

Vitamine D is noodzakelijk voor honden, want in tegenstelling tot mensen die vitamine D kunnen aanmaken via zonlicht, kunnen zij dit niet zelf, dus moet het worden opgenomen in hun dieet.<\/p>\n\n

Een vegetarisch hondenvoer zal meestal Vitamine D3 gebruiken dat is afgeleid van schapenwol dat van het dier is geschoren.<\/p>\n\n

In tegenstelling tot veganistisch hondenvoer dat geen enkel ingredi\u00ebnt mag bevatten dat afkomstig is van een dierlijke bron.<\/p>\n\n

Dit voorkomt dat een veganistische voeding voor honden zuivelproducten, honing (of propolis), eieren of eierderivaten zoals eierschalen, dierlijk of marien collageen en vitamine D3 afkomstig van lanoline bevat.<\/p>\n\n

Hondenvoer in de VS mag van de AAFCO<\/a> (The Association of American Feed Control Officials), het bestuursorgaan voor diervoeding in de VS, Vitamine D2 gebruiken als vitamine D-bron in hondenvoer. Vitamine D2 wordt gewonnen uit eierdooiers, kaas en voornamelijk uit paddenstoelen die worden blootgesteld aan ultraviolet licht. <\/p>\n\n

In het VK en de EU is alleen Vitamine D3 wettelijk toegestaan als de bron van Vitamine<\/a> D die essentieel is voor de voeding van onze honden. Vit D2 was toegestaan tot een wetswijziging die het verbiedt als enige bron vanaf 2019. <\/p>\n\n

De reden voor deze verandering was dat onderzoek aantoont dat Vitamine D2 niet zo biobeschikbaar is als Vit D3<\/a> en daardoor de kans vergroot dat honden een Vitamine D-tekort krijgen met als gevolg gezondheidsproblemen zoals hartfalen, spierpijn, spierzwakte, botpijn, haaruitval, vermoeidheid, slechte wondgenezing, constipatie en\/of lusteloosheid.<\/p>\n\n

Hoewel vegetarisch hondenvoer per definitie Vit D3 afkomstig van schapenwol kan gebruiken, omdat er geen dieren zijn geslacht tijdens de productie, kan veganistisch hondenvoer dat niet omdat het een dierlijk product is.<\/p>\n\n

Veganistisch hondenvoer in het Verenigd Koninkrijk kan alleen de veel duurdere van algen (zeewier) afgeleide veganistische Vitamine D3<\/a> gebruiken als Vit D-bron in hun voer.<\/p>\n\n
