As the founder and CEO of Bonza, I am challenging one of the most overlooked truths in canine health: the gut is not just part of the system. It is the system. I hold Diplomas in Canine Nutrition and Dog Nutrigenomics, both awarded with Distinction, and I formulate every Bonza recipe in-house alongside our board of canine veterinary nutritionists. The gut microbiome sits at the centre of immune regulation, inflammation, metabolic function and neurological health, yet much of modern dog nutrition still treats food as fuel rather than biology. I am working to change that. At Bonza we take a systems-biology approach to canine nutrition. We design food and supplements that actively shape the microbiome through plant diversity, functional fibres, and named, regulatory-authorised bioactives with full strain-level transparency: the Biotics Triad of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, alongside phytonutrients and adaptogens. Each works through the eight gut-organ axes that connect the gut to the skin, joints, immune system, behaviour, heart, metabolism, liver and longevity. This is about more than better ingredients. It is about redefining food as a controllable input for health outcomes, shifting from reactive care to precision nutrition that supports resilience, longevity and disease prevention. We are building what canine nutrition should have been all along. One Gut. Whole Dog.

Leucine for Dogs: Muscle Support, Metabolic Signalling & Healthy Ageing

Leucine for Dogs: Muscle Support, Metabolic Signalling & Healthy Ageing

Leucine is the most potent dietary activator of the mTOR signalling pathway — the master cellular switch that initiates muscle protein synthesis in every mammalian species studied, including dogs. As dogs age, their ability to maintain lean muscle mass declines, leading to sarcopenia — the progressive loss of muscle that visibly thins the hindquarters and reduces mobility. This evidence-based guide explains how L-leucine at 30 mg per chewy in Bonza Boost Bioactive Bites supports muscle maintenance, metabolic health, cognitive function and intestinal integrity through the gut–metabolic axis.

Cysteine for Dogs: Glutathione Support, Liver Health & Antioxidant Defence

L-Cysteine for Dogs: Glutathione Support, Liver Health & Antioxidant Defence

L-cysteine is the rate-limiting amino acid in your dog's production of glutathione — the most abundant and arguably most important antioxidant in every cell of the body. Without adequate cysteine, glutathione synthesis stalls, leaving the liver, gut lining and immune system vulnerable to oxidative damage. This evidence-based guide explores how L-cysteine at 30 mg per chewy in Bonza Boost Bioactive Bites supports your dog's internal antioxidant defences, hepatic detoxification pathways and intestinal barrier integrity through the gut–liver and gut–immune axes.

Shiitake Mushrooms for Dogs: Immune Support, Antioxidant Protection & Whole-Body Benefits

Shiitake Mushrooms for Dogs: Immune Support, Antioxidant Protection & Whole-Body Benefits

Shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula edodes) are among nature's most researched medicinal fungi, delivering a unique combination of immune-modulating beta-glucans, the "longevity vitamin" ergothioneine, and the cholesterol-lowering compound eritadenine. This article examines the peer-reviewed evidence — including direct canine research — behind shiitake's bioactive compounds, their mechanisms of action, and how they support immune function, antioxidant defence and gut health in dogs.

Resistant Starch for Dogs: Gut Health, Butyrate Production & Prebiotic Benefits

Resistant Starch for Dogs: Gut Health, Butyrate Production & Prebiotic Benefits

Resistant starch escapes digestion in the small intestine and reaches the colon intact, where it fuels beneficial bacteria and drives butyrate production — the short-chain fatty acid most important for canine gut barrier integrity and immune function. This evidence-based guide examines the five RS types, what canine research actually shows, and how to optimise resistant starch intake alongside other prebiotic substrates for whole-body health.

Lecithin for Dogs: Gut Health, Bioavailability and Joint Support

Lecithin for Dogs: Gut Health, Bioavailability and Joint Support

Sunflower lecithin delivers phospholipids essential for cell membrane integrity, intestinal mucus barrier function and fat-soluble nutrient absorption in dogs. As a natural emulsifier in Bonza's Bounce joint support supplement, lecithin enhances the bioavailability of lipophilic active ingredients including curcumin, Boswellia and ASU — ensuring these compounds reach the tissues where they are needed most.
